Biography

"Simon Streather was born in 1967. He grew up in Perthshire, Scotland and went on to study at the Byam Shaw School of Art, graduating in 1992.

Since that time he has travelled, living and working in Poland, Norway, Ireland & Scotland. Simon exhibited works in one of the first exhibitions curated by 'Rear Window' in London 1993 and in their last at the 'The Approach' and 'John Hansard Gallery' in 1997. He has shown mainly at artist run spaces, including 'AT Gallery' and 'ON gallery' in Poznân, Poland, both in 1994 and 2003, also at 'Herslebsgata 10' in Oslo, and 'The Kingsgate Gallery' in London. He has lectured and conducted workshops at; University of Arts Warsaw, UWIC Cardiff & Goldsmiths University London. In 2019 he was the inaugural artist in residence at 'Sala 752' in Zaczernie, South East Poland"

"These works on paper are made using watercolour and ink for their immediacy and subtle materiality. They are concerned with transience and trace, with a regard for the ground and the ritualistic nature of repetitive mark making."
